Obituary of Hayes Agnew Crowder Jr. HAYES AGNEW CROWDER JR. Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - October 28, 2002 Hayes A. Crowder Jr., 73, died Sunday, Oct. 27, 2002, at Southampton Memorial Hospital. A native of Southampton County, he was a son of the late Hayes A. Crowder Sr. and Eva Mack Crowder. An Army veteran, he was awarded the Bronze Star while serving with the 101st Airborne Division in Korea. He was a retired warehouse supervisor with St. Regis Paper Company, a member of American Legion Post No. 73, Franklin, and a former member of American Legion Post No. 276, Boykins. Mr. Crowder was a lifelong member and former deacon of Newsoms Baptist Church, and member of the Men's Sunday School Class. He was a member of the Newsoms Hunt Club and Newsoms Ruritan Club. Hayes always will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather, and for his love of God and country. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Shirley Bridgers Crowder; a daughter, Cathy Crowder Belcher and her husband Sammy of Franklin; a sister, Mildred Parker of Colossee; two grandsons, Scott Belcher and his wife Lisa, and Matt Belcher, all of Franklin; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Edward T. Crowder, and two sisters, Gladys Story and Susie Lee Lowe. A graveside service with military honors will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Hollywood Cemetery , Newsoms , with the Rev. Kenneth Williams and the Rev. Sharon James officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Wright Funeral Home, Franklin.
