Obituary of Charles Burnley Darden Sr. CHARLES B DARDEN SR Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - September 15, 2004 Charles Burnley Darden Sr., 74, retired farmer and skilled wood craftsman, died Sept. 13, 2004, at his residence. A native of Southampton County, he was a son of the late Hunter Darden Sr. and Sallie Lankford Darden. Mr. Darden was a member of Sycamore Baptist Church and a former member of the Forks of the River Ruritan Club. He was a former National Guardsman, a former member of Southampton County Planning Commission and a 50-year member of the Franklin Masonic Lodge No. 151, AF&AM. He was an avid sportsman and a member of the Forks of the River Hunt Club. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Lucy Delessio Darden; two sons, Charles Burnley Darden Jr. and wife Deborah and Michael Lankford Darden, all of Franklin; a sister, Dorothy D. Cotton; two brothers, Hunter Darden Jr. and Thomas I. Darden, all of Franklin; two grandchildren, Crystal D. Swarmer and husband Chris of Courtland and Charles B. "Trey" Darden III of Franklin; two great-grandchildren, Christina and Carolyn Swarmer. Mr. Darden was predeceased by a sister, Louise D. Vaughan and a brother, Harvey Darden. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the chapel of Wright Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Roger Crump officiating. Burial will follow in Poplar Spring Cemetery .
