Obituary of James David “Jimmy” Darden JAMES DAVID DARDEN Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - September 29, 1997 James David ``Jimmy'' Darden, 81, died Sunday, Sept. 28, 1997, in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. A retired farmer and a native of Southampton County, he was the son of the late Richard N. and Susan D. Darden. He was a member of Newsoms United Methodist Church, the Shiloh Hunt Club, and was a graudate of VPI. He is survived by his wife, Hester Newsome Darden; four daughters, Susan Schnieder of Patterson, N.J., Carolyn Schidt of Pawleys Island, S.C., Mary Jane Spivey of Virginia Beach and Joyce Hunter Cole of Surfside Beach, S.C.; a stepson, Vernon Clayton Taylor Sr. and his wife, Glenn of Franklin; a stepdaughter, Dianne Pocrnich of Antioch, Ill.; six grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and six stepgreat-grandchildren. A graveside service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Hollywood Cemetery by the Rev. Derek Koolman. The family will receive friends at Purviance Funeral Home, Boykins, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday and at other times at the residence, 28210 Meherrin Road, Boykins.
