DORIS DAUGHTREY KIRKLAND

Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - December 1, 2000 

Doris Daughtrey Kirkland, 76, died Nov. 29, 2000, in Sentara Norfolk General. Born in Southampton County, she was a daughter of the late James Carey and Dora Gardner Daughtrey and the widow of James Linwood Kirkland. Mrs. Kirkland was a member of Sycamore Baptist Church where she had been a longtime children's Sunday School teacher and member of the Smith's Ferry Home Demonstration Club. 

Survivors include a daughter, Nancy K. Lee and a son, J. Cary Kirkland; two sisters, Lois D. Daughtrey and Ethel ``Kitty'' Cobb, all of Franklin; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Julian Garrett ``Buddy'' Harcum and Robbie Harcum. 

A funeral will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Wright Funeral Home by the Revs. Dr. Reginald Warren, Darden B. Battle, and Edward C. Johnson. Burial will be in Poplar Spring Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the residence, 27396 Dogwood Bend Road and suggests that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, c/o Ruth Petty, 116 Southampton Road, Franklin or to Sentara Healthcare Foundation for the Heart Pavilion, c/o Gina Pitrone, 6015 Poplar Hall Drive, Norfolk, VA 23502.
