Obituary of John Stanley Davidson JOHN STANLEY DAVIDSON Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - April 21, 2003 John S. Davidson FRANKLIN - John Stanley Davidson, 68, died Sunday, April 20, 2003, at Southampton Memorial Hospital after a long and courageous battle with cancer. John was born Oct. 28, 1934, in Bertie County, N.C., a son of John Madison and Lena Radcliff Davidson. He served three years in the U.S. Army and retired from International Paper after 43 years of dedicated service. His most enjoyable hobby was being an avid fisherman. A loving and devoted husband and father, he is survived by his wife of 43 years, Mary Hughes Davidson; two daughters, Gwen D. Sawyer of Franklin and Pamela D. Haydu and her husband, Billy, of Boykins; a son, Gregory Madison Davidson of Franklin; two grandchildren, Jessica and Ashley Haydu; four sisters, June D. Futrell and her husband, Charles, of Carrsville, Nancy D. Manning and her husband, Carl Wayne, of Tarboro, N.C., Betty D. Bellflower of Franklin and Mary D. Whitehead and her husband, James, of Hayes; a brother, William E. Davidson and his wife, Evelyn, of Greenville, Tenn.; and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Davidson was predeceased by his parents and a sister, Hilda Gray Davidson. A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, with the Rev. Dr. Richard Peerey officiating. Burial will follow in Beaver Dam Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home and requests memorials be made to The American Cancer Society, c/o Mrs. Ruth Petty, 116 Southampton Road, Franklin, VA 23851.
