Jessie Davis Marks, 89, of the 700 block of Rebecca St., died Oct. 18, 1998. She was the widow of Edward L. ``Bill'' Marks Jr. Mrs. Marks was born in Southampton County to Jesse Benjamin and Bessie Gillette Davis. She was a graduate of Mary Washington College and had retired from teaching after 29 years. She was a member of Courtland United Methodist Church and the Mary Cobb White Circle. Mrs. Marks was a dedicated teacher and dearly loved flowers, music and and all sports. 

Mrs. Marks is survived by a daughter, Pat Marks Cox; a grandson, Eric Donovan Cox; a stepdaughter, Shirley M. McBroom; a stepson, James F. Marks; 12 stepgrandchildren; and six nephews. She was predeceased by a brother and two sisters, Lewis W. Davis, Ethel D. Marks and Bessie D. Rogers. 

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Riverside Cemetery by the Rev. Robert Parks and the Rev. James W. Browder III. The family will receive friends at Wright Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m. today and suggests that memorial donations be made to the Courtland UMC, 22416 Main St., Courtland , Va. 23837 or the Franklin Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 179, Franklin, Va. 23851.
