Katherine E. Ranson Drake, 73, a resident of Norfolk and Courtland, died Aug. 29, 1992, in a Norfolk hospital. 

Mrs. Drake was born in Courtland. She was the former owner of Ranson's Beauty Shop. She was a member of Courtland Baptist Church and the Willoughby Civic League, Norfolk. She attended Longwood College. 

Survivors include her husband, Otis E. Drake; a daughter, Faye R. Copeland of Lynchburg; a stepdaughter, Patsy D. Stacher of Clarksville, Tenn.; a son, Frank R. Ranson of Hampton; a brother, Warren E. Edwards of Virginia Beach; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. 

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Courtland Baptist Church by the Revs. Gary Powell and Raleigh Baker. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Friends may join the family from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today in Holland-Rideout Funeral Home. Viewing for family only will be from 11 a.m. to noon Tuesday in the funeral home. 

Memorial donations may be made to the Courtland Volunteer Rescue Squad.
