Hortense Dundalow Whitley, 80, of Green Oaks Lane, died Feb. 20, 1996, at her home. 

Mrs. Whitley was a native of Southampton County and was the widow of E. Carson Whitley Sr. She was the daughter of the late James D. and Mary E. Turner Dundalow. Mrs. Whitley was a member of Nottoway Chapel Methodist Church. 

Survivors include a son, E. Carson Whitley Jr. and his wife, Margaret, of Franklin; a sister, Annie Dundalow of Courtland; two half-sisters, Grace Kotel of Edenton, N.C., and Sallie Gray of Newsoms; a half-brother, Joseph G. Dundalow of Franklin; two granddaughters, Sandra Hawkins and Susan Keeter, both of Franklin; four great-grandchildren, Brian Vaughan, Josh Hawkins, Brandon Keeter and Chad Keeter. 

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. today in Southampton Memorial Park by Dr. Richard L. Peerey. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, c/o Mrs. Ruth Petty, 116 Southampton Road, Franklin, Va. 23851. Wright Funeral Home is in charge.
