FRANKLIN - Lessie Mae Edwards Beale, 83, died Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2002, at Tandem Healthcare of Windsor. A native of Southampton County, she was a daughter of the late Crawley Cecil and Athie Jones Edwards, and the widow of Johnnie Branch Beale. She was a member of Black Creek Baptist Church and Franklin Senior Citizens.

Survivors include her son, Dennis E. Beale and his wife, Connie, of Franklin; a sister, Jackie E. Bly of Franklin; a brother, James Cecil Edwards of Sedley; a granddaughter, Ashley Beale; and two step granddaughters, Lauren and Amber Hatfield.

A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Black Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Greg Kitts and the Rev. Willie H. Switzer officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Wright Funeral Home and suggests that memorials be made to Black Creek Baptist Church, 34163 Vicksville Road, Franklin, VA 23851.
