Obituary of Dorothy Butler Ellis DOROTHY BUTLER ELLIS Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Monday, April 22, 2002 Dorothy Butler Ellis, 82, died Saturday, April 20, 2002, in Obici Hospital. Born in Hertford County, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Rex and Levy Flythe Butler. She was a homemaker and a member of the Open Door Church. Survivors include her husband of 54 years, William Ashley Ellis; five daughters, Vivian E. Griggs, Ann E. Tew, Brenda E. Boyce and Wanda E. Rountree, all of Suffolk, and Evelyn E. Whitehead of Gaston Lake, N.C.; one son, David Turner of Suffolk; a daughter-in-law, Bessie Turner Stow; two sisters, Bernice B. Butler of Hernando, Fla., and Ella Mae Ellis of Franklin; 27 grandchildren; and 34 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Ellis was predeceased by a son, Thomas Turner Jr.; three grandchildren, Carl Strickland, Kimberly Carter and Petey Bach; a sister, Virginia Turner; and a brother, Albert Butler Jr. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, with the Rev. William Hawkins and the Rev. Tony Peaks officiating. Burial will follow in Southampton Memorial Park . The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home and other times at the residence, 2949 Deer Path Run, Suffolk.
