Obituary of Johnny Ray Ellis Sr. JOHNNIY RAY ELLIS Virginian Pilot (Norfolk, VA) - January 6, 2004 Johnny Ray "Ray Ray" Ellis Sr., 52, died Jan. 4, 2004, at the Veterans Hospital in Richmond. Born in Roanoke Rapids, he was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War and a welder. He was a member of the Central Hill Hunt Club and a life member of the Franklin VFW. Survivors include his wife, Jenny Salmon Ellis; his mother, Nellie Harrell Butler and stepfather, Charles Butler of Carrsville; four daughters, Crystal Ellis of Zuni, Holly Ellis and Charity Ellis, both of Windsor and Danielle Rippey of Suffolk; two sons, Johnny Ray Ellis Jr. of South Carolina and Joseph Ellis of Suffolk; four brothers, Roland Ellis of Suffolk, Mike Ellis of Wakefield, George Ellis of Suffolk and Harold Ellis of Stony Creek; two half sisters, Linda Butler of Raleigh, N.C., and Patricia Holland of Windsor; a half brother, Charles Butler Jr. of Carrsville; and five grandchildren. He was predeceased by his father, George Thomas Ellis. A graveside service with military honors will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Holly Lawn Cemetery, Suffolk, with the Rev. Douglas W.
