Obituary of William Lee Ellis Jr. WILLIAM L. ELLIS JR. Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - August 11, 2001 FRANKLIN - William Lee Ellis Jr., 73, died Aug. 10, 2001. Born in Richmond, he was a son of the late William L. and Gayle Hartz Ellis. Bill was an Army veteran stationed in Korea and was retired from Union Camp Corp. He was a life member of the Franklin Jaycees and had received the Distinguished Service and Outstanding Young Man Awards. He was a charter president of the Franklin Chamber of Commerce. He served for 20 years on the Franklin Board of Zoning Appeals, many as chairman. Bill was a member of the Franklin Masonic Lodge No. 151 AF&AM, Scottish Rite, Franklin Shrine Club, Shriners Khedive Temple and was Past Worthy Patron of Franklin Chapter No. 128 OES. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Douglas Bryant Ellis; two sons, William Lee Ellis III and his wife Cheryl of Franklin, and Douglas Bryant Ellis and his wife Shelley of Suffolk; three grandsons, Jacob Garrett Ellis, Jaron Bryant Ellis and William Douglas Ellis; and many special nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Martha Ellis. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Wright Funeral Home with the Rev. Denise Smelley and the Rev. Lafayette Wilkins officiating. Burial will be in Poplar Spring Cemetery . The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home and other times at the residence.
