James Emerson Holland, 82, died Jan. 8, 1999, in Southampton Memorial Hospital.
He was born Dec. 16, 1916, in Isle of Wight County, and was a son of the late Jethro and Maude Butler Holland. He retired as a machine tender from the paper mill department of Union Camp Corporation after 42 years of service. An Army veteran of World War II, he was a charter member of the Bronco Rod and Gun Club and was a member of the CCB Hunt Club. Mr. Holland was a member of South Quay Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Sophia Groski Holland; a daughter, Becky Holland Duckwitz of Virginia Beach; three sons, James E. Holland Jr. of Franklin, Robert E. Holland of Kennewick, Wash., and Terry L. Holland of Suffolk; four grandchildren, Jason Duckwitz, Megan Duckwitz, Nikki Holland and Kaitlynn Holland.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, by the Rev. Louis Venable and the Rev. William Hawkins. Burial will be in Southampton Memorial Park . The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
