Obituary of ROSCOE VERLIE EVANS The Virginian Pilot (Norfolk, VA) - February 2, 1993 R. Verlie Evans, 91, of 113 Oakdale Terrace, Suffolk, died Monday, Feb. 1, 1993, in his home. A native of Suffolk, he retired in 1965 as a supervisor with the U.S. Postal Service after 46 years. He was the husband of Julia Spivey Evans and the son of the late Roscoe Burrell Evans and Hattie Morris Evans. Mr. Evans was a member of First Baptist Church, Travelers's Protective Association, Post P and the American Association of Retired Persons. He worked with R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home and Planter's Center since 1965. Besides his wife, he's survived by two sons, Donald Verlie Evans of Newport News and Philip Warren Evans of Midlothian; two granddaughters, Susan Evans Ayers of Frederick, Md., and Mary Elizabeth Evans of Midlothian; two grandsons, David Warren Evans of Kitty Hawk, N.C., and Philip Warren Evans Jr. of Midlothian; and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, Feb. 3, at 2 p.m. in R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home by the Rev. Charles W. Thompson and the Rev. James R. Noland. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
