Ferguson NEWPORT NEWS - Pearl Harris Ferguson, 88, passed away Sept. 14, 2001, at Riverside Regional Convalescent Center. A native of Southampton County, she had been a Peninsula resident since 1990. She was a member of Franklin Baptist Church. Mrs. Ferguson was predeceased by her husband, Richard H. Ferguson, and one daughter, Frances Butler. Survivors include two daughters, Cynthia F. Thurman of Houston, Texas and Carolyn Boykin of Courtland, Va.; a sister, Bertha Ruby Saunders of Newport News; and two granddaughters, Lori Radcliffe and Joy Butler. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Poplar Springs Cemetery , Franklin, by the Rev. Richard Peerey. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the home of Mrs. Carolyn Boykin. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 895 Middleground Blvd., Suite 154, Newport News, VA 23606. Weymouth Funeral Home, Newport News, is in charge.
