Obituary of Dr. David Cecil Forbes DR. DAVID CECIL FORBES Virginian Pilot - 08-18-2001 SUFFOLK - Dr. David Cecil Forbes, 81, of Westgate Avenue, died Aug. 17, 2001. Born in Franklin, he was the son of the Jackin and Myrtle Johnson Forbes. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sue Roberts Forbes; son, David Curtis Forbes and his wife, Robin Forbes of Lawrenceville, Ga.; daughter, Nancy Forbes Cisco and her husband, Gary Shannon Cisco of Suffolk; grandson, Davis Shannon Cisco, Bryan Lee Cisco, John David Forbes and Robert Harmon Forbes; and sisters, Sara Forbes D'Mock of Virginia beach, Margaret Forbes Brown of Newport News. He was predeceased by two children, Harmon Roberts Forbes and Margaret "Peggy" Florence Forbes. Dr. Forbes served three years with the Army during World War II in the medical detachment of the 52nd Combat Engineers Battalion. He attended Virginia Tech and graduated from the University of Georgia with a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine. He practiced his profession for 15 years before joining and retiring from the Virginia department of Agriculture as a veterinary supervisor. Dr. Forbes was a member of Bethlehem Christian Church where he taught Sunday school for many years. He had also served as president of the Bethlehem Ruritan Club and the Suffolk Chapter of Isaac Walton League. He was a member of the Suffolk Elks Lodge No. 685. A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Bethlehem Christian Church Cemetery by the Rev. Jonathan Palmer. The family will receive friends in the R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home today from 6 to 8 p.m. and other times at his home.
