Obituary of Moncure "Monty" Francis MONCURE FRANCIS Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - February 12, 1999 Moncure ``Monty'' Francis, 84, retired owner of Francis Brothers Lumber Co., died Feb. 11, 1999, in Henrico Doctor's Hospital. A lifelong resident of Southampton County, Mr. Francis was born June 8, 1914, in Boykins, Va., a son of the late Joshua Arnold and Dona Irene Vick Francis. An Army staff sergeant in World War II, he was a recipient of the Bronze Service Star having served in the campaigns of France and Germany. He was a member of Capron United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, Eva Jones Francis; two daughters, Ellen F. Berryman of Marion, Va., and Patricia K. Francis of Fort Mill, S.C.; a son, Raymond E. Francis of Naperville, Ill.; two sisters, Bertha F. Vaughan of Capron and Margaret F. Drake of Knoxville, Tenn.; two brothers, Herbert W. Francis and Vernie W. Francis, both of Capron; six grandchildren, Melanie A. Francis, Josh H. Francis, Joel R. Francis, Monty G. Berryman, Adam G. Berryman and William G. Berryman; three stepgrandchildren, Kelli T. Wilson, Tripp Wilson and Holli K. Wilson; four step-great-grandchildren, Chelsea Wilson, Casey Wilson, Emma Wilson and Simon Wilson. He was predeceased by three sisters, Jessie Withers, Gladys Draper, Elsie Dover, and one brother, L.T. Francis. A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Capron United Methodist Church with the Rev. Lowell Stovall officiating. Burial will be in Capron Cemetery .
