Obituary of Jerome Justin Gagner JEROME JUSTIN GAGNER Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Wednesday, February 21, 2001 Jerome Justin Gagner, 75, died Feb. 19, 2001, in Southampton Memorial Hospital. Born in Rice Lake, Wis., he was a son of the late Sipblian Joseph and Maude Arnerson Gagner. An Army veteran of both World War II and Korea, he was discharged as a master sergeant. Mr. Gagner retired from Union Camp Corporation in 1992 as an electrical supervisor after 40 years of service. He was a three-term commander of American Legion Post 73 and a 39 year member of High Street United Methodist Church having been active over the years serving on various committees. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 47 years, Mildred Heath Gagner. Survivors include three daughters, Kathy G. Panikowski and husband, Jim, of Courtland, Beth G. Buist and husband, Mark, of Powder Springs, Ga., and Celia G. Jernigan of Ann Arbor, Mich.; three sons, Jerome J. (Jay) Gagner Jr., Kevin W. Gagner and Chris J. Gagner and wife, Gail, of Nazareth, Pa.; a sister, Joyce G. Bland of Franklin and twin brother, Jeremy J. Gagner of Rice Lake; four grandchildren, Amy Panikowski, Justin Panikowski, Leigh Buist, and Heath Gagner; two ``special'' daughters, Rita Schafer and husband, Chris, and Pam Lease and husband, Dave; five ``special'' grandchildren, Lindsay, Katie and Anna Schafer, Heather Dann, Colby Lease; his very special pet, ``George B'' and many special friends and comrades. A brother, Richard A. Gagner, and a nephew, Joseph R. Gagner, predeceased him. A funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday in High Street United Methodist Church with the Rev. Edward C. Johnson and the Rev. Fr. Carl DeSouza officiating. Burial, with military honors, will be in Southampton Memorial Park . The family will receive friends at 7 p.m. today at the residence, 409 Clay St., and suggest memorials be made to High Street UMC Building Fund, 301 W. First Ave., Franklin, VA 23851.
