''Ben'' Gardner Sr., 64, of the 300 block of Cedar St., died June 6, 1998, in Obici Hospital. He was a native of Isle of Wight County, Va., son of the late David Gardner and Ethel Turner Gardner. He had retired as a shipping and receiving supervisor with Planters Peanut after 26 years of service. Mr. Gardner was an Air Force veteran and a member of Antioch Christian Church. Survivors include his wife, Janet M. Gardner; three daughters, Sharron L. Helton of Portsmouth, Deborah J. Gardner and Sandra K. Gardner, both of Suffolk; two sons, David B. Gardner Jr. of Suffolk and Robert A. Gardner of Virginia Beach; a sister, Marjorie G. Whitley of Zuni, Va.; two aunts, Mary T. Powell of Zuni and Mary G. Joyner, who was a beloved second mother to her Benjamin. A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Harrell Funeral Home. Interment will be in Holly Lawn Cemetery. The Rev. James T. Dunn will officiate. Friends may join the family from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday in the funeral home and other times at the residence. Memorials may be sent to the Nansemond-Suffolk Rescue Squad.
