Bobby Gray Gavin, 62, a longtime law enforcement officer in Franklin and Southampton County, died Nov. 18, 1998. 

Born Feb. 2, 1936, in Harrell's Store, N.C., he was a son of the late David John and Clell Carr Gavin and the widower of Barbara Crichton Gavin. An Army veteran, Bobby was a retired correctional officer with the Virginia Department of Corrections. He was a member of Hunterdale United Church of Christ. 

Survivors include his sister, Ruth Gavin Ezzell of Harrell's Store, N.C.; and his brother, Elwood Lee ``Foots'' Gavin of Franklin. He was predeceased by one brother, Jimmy Gavin. 

A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Capron Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. Alan Campbell officiating. The family will receive friends at 7 p.m. Friday at Wright Funeral Home and other times at the home of Foots and Linda Gavin, 30479 Campbells Run, Franklin. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, c/o Mrs. Ruth Petty, 116 Southampton Road, Franklin, Va. 23851.
