Obituary of Robert Turnbull "Tabb" Gillette ROBERT TURNBULL GILLETTE Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Wednesday, February 1, 2006 COURTLAND - Robert Turnbull "Tabb" Gillette, 84, passed away at Southampton Memorial Hospital in Franklin, Jan. 30, 2006. He was the son of the late James Thomas and Evelyn Turnbull Gillette. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 50 years, Gwendolyn Ridley Gillette; his stepmother, Carlynn Perrow Gillette; a brother, James Thomas Gillette Jr.; and a sister, Victoria Gillette Shearin. Survivors include a daughter, Evelyn Gillette Musser of Courtland ; twin sons, Dr. Lynn Goodwyn Gillette of Louisville, Ky. and Dr. James Robert Gillette of Lexington, Ky.; eight grandchildren, Evelyn Drewry Bailey, John Herman Drewry IV, Jacquelyn Riddick Gillette, Gwendolyn Danielle Gillette, Jessica Lynn Gillette, Joseph Rodgers Gillette, Jackson Robert Gillette and Jordan Clark Gillette; a brother, Joseph Perrow Gillette of Richmond, Va.; a sister, Betty Frances Gillette Heald of Palmyra, Va.; and nine nieces and nephews. He was a 1943 graduate of the University of Virginia. He was president of his senior class at the university where he was a member of ATO fraternity and the Z-Society. He was captain of the 1943 baseball team and his "most touchdown passes thrown in a game" was set in 1942 and upheld until 1993. He was a World War II Navy veteran participating in the invasion of Normandy. He was a retired teacher, principal, baseball and football coach and business owner. He was a lifelong member of Courtland United Methodist Church where he taught the Men's Bible Class for many years. The family will receive friends at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Pittman, 24522 Ridley Road, Courtland , Va., from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today. The funeral will be held at Courtland United Methodist Church at 3 p.m. Thursday with the Rev. Kay Barstow Gentry officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Riverside Cemetery .
