Mallie Mae ``Granny'' Story, 85, died Jan. 12, 1999, in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. 

Born April 13, 1913, in Nelson County, Va., she was one of seven children of the late Hugh and Pearl White Tinnell and the widow of Herman Lee Story. Mrs. Story was a former waitress at the Stonewall Hotel in Franklin. She was a member of Courtland Baptist Church. 

Survivors include three daughters, Bessie Mae Fitzgerald of Staunton, Va., Mary C. Pierson of Baltimore, Md., and Ann C. Kitchen of Courtland; two sons, Hugh Jefferson Coleman of Courtland and James Herbert Coleman of Portsmouth; a sister, Lena T. Wills of Lovingston, Va.; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and 18 nieces and nephews. 

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, with the Rev. Thomas R. Speight officiating. Burial will be in Southampton Memorial Park . The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
