Griffin Sr. COURTLAND - Calvin Pope Griffin Sr., 62, died Monday, Nov. 5, 2001, at Southampton Memorial Hospital.< A lifelong resident of Southampton County, he was the son of the late Joe Tom Griffin and Janie Lucy Pope Griffin. He was a member of Franklin-Carrollton Seventh Day Adventist Church, and had retired from the Virginia Department of Transportation, Capron, in 1996. Mr. Griffin is survived by his wife, Gwendolyn Diane Dunlow Griffin; three sons, Calvin Pope Griffin Jr. and wife Melissa of Courtland, Tommy Lee Griffin Sr. and wife Sheila of Windsor, and Michael Todd Griffin and wife Shelia of Courtland; two brothers, Samuel Griffin of Newsoms and Ronnie Griffin of Suffolk; one sister, Nancy Griffin of Emporia; and nine grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Robert Wayne Griffin. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield, with Pastor Austin Goodwin and the Rev. John Watson officiating. Burial will be in Capron Cemetery , Capron, Va. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, chapter of the donor's choice.
