Obituary of MARTHA VIOLET GRIFFIN The Virginian-Pilot (Norfolk, VA) - October 20, 1994 Martha Violet Griffin of the first block of E. Griffin St. died Oct. 18, 1994, in a Franklin hospital. The oldest of five children of the late Charles Lee and Hattie J. Griffin, Miss Griffin was born on Dec. 3, 1900, in Windsor. She was the oldest member of Windsor Christian Church at the time of her death and had served as church secretary for 40 years. In early years she taught Sunday School and was a 4-H club leader. Miss Griffin was an active member of the Windsor Woman's Club and Homemaker's Club. Miss Griffin attended Farmville Normal School and taught at Cypress Chapel. She joined Brewer Jewelry Company and worked there until she was 80. She is survived by two brothers and sisters-in-law, Harry and Mildred Griffin, and J.C. and Elaine Griffin, all of Windsor; 11 nieces and nephews; 14 great-nieces and nephews; and one great-great-niece. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Windsor Christian Church by the Rev. Basil L. Ballard and the Rev. William A. Grissom. Burial will be in Windsor Cemetery . The family will receive friends in R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today.
