Obituary of Lyonel Alonza Grizzard LYONEL ALONZA GRIZZARD Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Wednesday, March 19, 2003 Lyonel Alonza Grizzard, 77, died March 16, 2003. A native of Southampton County, he had retired after 35 years as the owner and operator of West End Texaco. The son of the late Lorena E.S. and James H. Grizzard, he was the widower of Mary G. Grizzard and was a member of Magnolia United Methodist Church. He was a longtime member of the Suffolk V.F.W., Suffolk Elks Lodge No. 685, Suffolk Moose Lodge No. 141 and T.P.A. Post "P." He was a U.S. Navy veteran after serving in World War II. His favorite way to pass time was to visit loved ones and friends. Survivors include his daughters and sons-in-law, Lynell G. and Gary L. Firebaugh of Staunton, Va. and Debbey G. Roadcap and David Proctor of Harrisonburg, Va.; grandchildren, Jaime Payne and husband Clarence, Merrie Burruss and husband Joe, Kim Guyer and husband Rodney, Aimee Firebaugh and Ricky Firebaugh; great-grandchildren, Brittney and Emily Payne, Tyler, Zeke and Sydney Burruss and Mason Guyer; and a sister, Lillian G. Long of Staunton. A funeral will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Magnolia United Methodist Church, Suffolk, by the Rev. Mike Derflinger. There will also be a memorial service Saturday at 4 p.m. at Dayton United Methodist Church in Dayton, Va., officiated by Dr. James Mahaffey. Interment will be in Holly Lawn Cemetery with military rites. Friends may join the family today from 7 to 8 p.m. at Parr Funeral Home, Suffolk.
