She was a native of San Luis Obispo, Calif., and was a registered nurse with Obici Hospital Women's Center. She was a member of Oakland Christian Church, where she attended the Mildred Knight Sunday School Class and was member of the choir. She was a Sunday school teacher and a youth fellowship adviser. She was a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University School of Nursing, Class of 1981, and was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Survivors include her husband, Steve Allen Gwaltney Sr. of Suffolk; her parents, James Belton Duff and Judith Bremer Duff of Virginia Beach; a daughter, Bremer Elaine Gwaltney of Suffolk; sons, Steve Allen Gwaltney Jr. and James Ryland Gwaltney of Suffolk; sister, Lisa Duff Muglia of Nags Head, N.C.; brother, James Bremer Duff of Virginia Beach; and maternal grandmother, Mathilda Walkman of Moriches, Long Island, N.Y. A celebration of life service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Oakland Christian Church by the Rev. Mark L. Burns. Friends may join the family from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Harrell Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
