CHESAPEAKE - Esther H. Southerland, 74, of the 200 block of Kalmar Drive died Tuesday, Jan. 28, 1997, at her residence. Mrs. Southerland was born in Richmond and was the daughter of the late Jobie and Cora Darden Harrell. she was a charter member of Immanuel Baptist Church, where she was a member of the choir for many years, active in the children's department in Sunday School and involved in the church preschool program. Mrs. Southerland also was a member of Greenbrier Senior Citizens and a Mall Walker. Survivors include her husband, J.T. "Jimmy" Southerland; her two daughters, Carolyn S. Wills and Ann S. Lamb; and her two sons, James T. Southerland Jr. and Darrell K. Southerland, all of Chesapeake; six grandchildren, Wayne N. Anderson, Tiffany D. Hall, Nicole D. Anderson, Kimberly A. Reinick, Brandi R. Lamb, Michael K. Southerland; and her great-grandson, James Thomas Anderson. A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Immanuel Baptist Church by the Rev. David Livengood. Interment will be in Holland Cemetery, Holland, Va. Viewing will begin on Friday and the family will receive friends at Oman Funeral Home, Great Bridge, from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Immanuel Baptist Church Building Fund, 1012 N. Battlefield Blvd., Chesapeake, Va., 23320; Gideons International; or Comfort Care Hospice Program, 1228 Progressive Drive, Chesapeake, Va. 23320.
