BERTHA LEE HARCUM COGGSDALE

Bertha Harcum Coggsdale, 86, of Handsom, died April 28, 1997, in Southampton Memorial Hospital. 

Mrs. Coggsdale was a native of Southampton County and was the daughter of the late George W. Harcum and Addie Vaughan Blythe. She was the widow of John Waverly Coggsdale Sr. Mrs. Coggsdale was a homemaker and a member of Sycamore Baptist Church. 

She is survived by four daughters, Doris Carr and husband, Hugh, of Zuni; Antnette Harrell and husband, Robert Lee of Suffolk, Jean Vaughan and husband, George of Franklin, Evelyn Daughtrey of Holland; three sons, J.W. Coggsdale Jr. and wife, Shelby of Courtland, Edward Coggsdale of Franklin, Shelton Coggsdale and wife, Sydney of Suffolk; 24 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild. She was predeceased by two sons, Freddie and Hubert Coggsdale and a granddaughter, Becky Carr Francis and a son-in-law, Raymond Daughtrey. 

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Sycamore Baptist Church by the Rev. Dr. Reginald Warren and the Rev. Dr. Alan R. W. Campbell. Burial will follow in Southampton Memorial Park . The family will receive friends at Wright Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m. today and other times at the home of George and Jean Vaughan, 22263 Sedley Road. Memorial donations may be made to Sycamore Baptist Church Building Fund, c/o Tom Moore, 23179 Storys Station Road, Franklin, Va. 23851 or the Franklin Rescue Squad.
