SUFFOLK - Emily Katherine Harrell Lynch, 82, died March 1, 2004

Born April 3, 1921, in Nansemond County, she was the daughter of the
late Joel E. and Cora Parker Harrell and widow of James Cody Lynch Sr.
Mrs. Lynch loved teaching mathematics and tutoring many students over
the years when she taught at Suffolk High School and Nansemond Suffolk
Academy. She was a lifetime member of Liberty Spring Christian Church,
where she was very active, serving in many offices, helping to write a
history of the church and was chosen Mother of the Year in 1983. Mrs.
Lynch was a graduate of Cypress Chapel High School and the College of
William and Mary. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, the Virginia
and National Council of Teachers of Mathenatics, the NEA and the VEA.

Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Kathryn L. and Robert
L. Kaplon of Lynchburg, Janet L. and R. Joe Simmons of Suffolk; son and
daughter-in-law, James C. Lynch Jr. and wife Christy Lynch of Suffolk;
grandchildren, Joseph W. Simmons of Herndon, Julie M. Simmons of
Suffolk, Kristin R. Kaplan of Virginia Beach; many nieces and nephews.

A funeral will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Liberty Spring Christian Churcy
by the Rev. Bill Bates and the Rev. Tommy Reynolds with burial in the
church cemetery. The family will receive friends in R.W. Baker & Co.
Funeral Home & Crematory today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Memorial donations
