Nell Harrell, 78, died Jan. 8, 1995, in Obici Hospital.  
Miss Harrell, a native of old Nansemond County, was a daughter of the late Vivian Brown Harrell Sr. and Otelia Vaughan Harrell. She was a member of Cypress Chapel Christian Church and was retired from teaching after 41 years of service in the Virginia school system. She was a 1932 graduate of Whaleyville High School, attended State Teachers College, Farmville, Va., and was a graduate of Radford College, Radford, Va.  
Survivors include a sister, Virginia Harrell Whitehurst of Churchland; a brother, Vivian Brown Harrell Jr. of Franklin; a nephew, Phillip Whitehurst of Philadelphia; two nieces, Cynthia H. Hunting and Nancy Page Harrell of Franklin. She was predeceased by one brother, David Brown Harrell of Suffolk.  
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home by the Rev. John R. Kimball. Burial will be in Cypress Chapel Christian Church Cemetery.
