A native of Suffolk, he retired from the Dept. of Transportation for the City of Suffolk. He attended Magnolia United Methodist Church, was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and a member of the Peanut City Bass Masters. Survivors include his wife, Shirley B. Harrell; two daughters, Sharon K. Harrell of Rodanthe, N.C., Roberta H. Peele of Suffolk; a son, Robert Redell Harrell Jr. of Suffolk; his mother, Dorothy Harrell of Suffolk; two sisters, Louise Taylor and Lillie Jernigan, both of Suffolk; three grandchildren, Stephanie N. Tew, Jason M. Thomas and Elizabeth A. Peele. He was predeceased by his father, John B. Harrell. A funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Monday in Harrell Funeral Home by the Rev. Clyde D. Nuckols Sr. Burial will be in Holly Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4 to 5 p.m. today in the funeral home and will be at the residence at other times.
