TEMPIE HARRISON CAMPBELL

Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Wednesday, September 13, 2000 

Tempie Harrison Maddrey Campbell, 81, a Franklin resident since 1982 and a former resident of Hampton, died Sept. 12, 2000, in the East Pavilion. 

Born in Weldon, N.C., she was one of five children of the late Hardy and Annie Wallace Harrison and the widow of James Campbell. A retired sales clerk with W.T. Grant in Newport News, Mrs. Campbell was a member of the Franklin Baptist Church, the WMU, Kings Servants Sunday School Class and the High Street Senior Citizens. 

Survivors include two daughters, Shirley M. Pope and her husband, Stanley, of Franklin and Linda C. Coggins and her husband, Dale, of Newport News; a son, Kenneth H. Campbell and his wife, Lynn Baker, of New York; a sister, Blanche H. Wiggins of Williamsburg; five grandchildren, Rhonda Joyner and her husband, Jeff, Cathy Whitley and her husband, Scottie, all of Franklin, Kim Billups and her husband, Daryl, of Black Creek, and Sara Coggins and Ryan Coggins, both of Portland, Ore.; and five great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her first husband, Howard Milton Maddrey. 

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Wright Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Roy E. DeBrand and the Rev. Sharon E. James officiating. Burial will be in Southampton Memorial Park . The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home and suggests that memorials be made to the Franklin Baptist Church Restoration Fund, 208 N. High St., Franklin VA 23851.
