Obituary of Harry Hassett HARRY HASSETT Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - August 21, 2001 Harry Hassett FRANKLIN - Harry Hassett, 92, died Sunday, Aug. 19, 2001. Mr. Hassett was born in Philadelphia, Pa., a son of the late Louis and Yetta Friedman Hassett. He was founder and co-owner of Hassett's Department Store in Franklin for 65 years. Survivors include his wife of 24 years, Nellie Larrea Hassett; two daughters, Eileen H. Gatling and her husband Tommy of Portsmouth, and Valerie H. Drazen and her husband Dennis of Orlando, Fla.; a stepdaughter, Maria V. Jones and her husband Dempsey of Farmville, Va.; nine grandchildren, Joe and Evelyn Hearst, Brian, Alan, Frank and Steven Drazen, Edgar, Thomas and Elizabeth Jones; five great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Peggy Hassett of Atlanta, Ga., Fannie Hassett of Franklin and Juana L. Fagalde of Richmond; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Evelyn Laderberg Hassett; and three brothers, Sam, Abe and Jake Hassett. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in the chapel of Wright Funeral Home with the Rev. Sharon James, Rabbi Arthur Steinberg and Father Carl DeSouza officiating. Burial will be in Poplar Spring Cemetery . The family will receive friends at the residence, 1125 Clay St. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of choice.
