Iris Carolyse Holland Howell, 90, of the 8300 block of Gates Road, died Wednesday, May 13, 1998, in her home. 

She was predeceased by her husband, Carroll R. Howell, and son, Seth G. Howell. Mrs. Howell was an active member of Holy Neck United Church of Christ and an active charter member of the Holland Woman's Club until the time of her death. 

Survivors include a son, James C. Howell of Virginia Beach; two grandchildren, Gil Howell and his wife, Karen, of Chesapeake, and Teresa Howell of Virginia Beach; three great-grandchildren, Andrea Howell, Seth Howell and Lindsay Dunn; and a brother, Emerson Holland and his wife, Sophia, of Suffolk. 

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today at Holland-Ride-out Funeral Home, Franklin, and at other times at the residence. A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home chapel by the Rev. Scott Fuller and the Rev. E. Cecil Smith. Burial will follow in Southampton Memorial Park , Franklin.
