Obituary of ≈ Henry Holland LEWIS HENRY HOLLAND Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Saturday, May 24, 2003 Lewis H. Holland COURTLAND - Lewis Henry Holland, a lifelong resident of Southampton County, departed this life May 22, 2003, in his 78th year. A son of the late Nathan Pugh and Hattie Miles Holland, he was a graduate of Newsoms High School, served in the Merchant Marine during World War II and was retired as a maintenance supervisor for Franklin city public schools. Mr. Holland was a charter member and former chief of the Courtland Volunteer Fire Dept. and a charter member of the Courtland Volunteer Rescue Squad. He was a former Scout Master with Courtland Troop 211, past master of the Courtland Lodge No. 85, AF&AM, and past District Deputy Grand Master of the 32nd Masonic district. Mr. Holland was a member of Courtland United Methodist Church, where he served as Sunday school superintendent for many years. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Mary Lee Drewry Holland; a daughter, Barbara Faye Hobbs and husband Gayle of Zuni; a son, James H. Holland and wife Carol of Franklin; three granddaughters, Victoria, Elizabeth and Heather Hobbs; three step-grandchildren, Nell Smith and Hudson and Wade Williams; two great-grandchildren, Gracie and Zachary Smith. A funeral will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. in Courtland United Methodist Church by the Rev. Kay Bristow Gentry. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery . The family will receive friends today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, and other times at the residence, 26102 Rochelle St., Courtland .
