Obituary of Odelle H. Holland ODELLE H . HOLLAND Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Tuesday, December 16, 1997 Odelle H . Holland , 75, died at home Sunday, Dec. 14, 1997, after fighting a courageous battle against cancer. A native of Holland , Va., she had been a resident of Norfolk for the past 55 years and a member of Christ United Methodist Church for the past 36 years. Mrs. Holland has been the treasurer of Christ United Methodist Church for the past 12 years; past conference treasurer and vice president of United Methodist Women; treasurer and registrar of the School of Christian Mission; and a trustee of Ferrum College, member of the board of directors of the Virginia United Methodist Assembly Conference; past president and secretary of the Norfolk District's United Methodist Women; local unit president and vice president, circle leader and local church chairperson supervising Christ United Methodist Church kitchen. Mrs. Holland has been active in local and state garden club work as a member of several local garden clubs, Hill 'N Dale, Devon Manor and Bay Haven Garden Clubs; past president and treasurer of the Federation of Garden Clubs of Norfolk and Vicinity Inc.; past president and treasurer of Tidewater District-Virginia Federation of Garden Clubs Inc.; and Nature Camp trustee. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Carroll M. Holland ; a daughter, Carolyn H . Betz and her husband, Thomas F. Betz Jr., of Virginia Beach; a son, C. Bryant Holland and his friend, Rick Sluss, of Norfolk; a grandson, Jeffrey F. Estes and his wife, Aimee Estes, of Chesapeake; two stepchildren, Kimberly A. Betz and her son, Jackson Betz, of Suffolk, and Todd B. Betz and his wife, Sylvia Betz, and daughter, Andrea Betz, of Virginia Beach; two sisters, Eloise H . Vick and her husband, Herman E. Vick Sr., of Franklin, and Doris H . Gomer and her husband, Bob Gomer, of Suffolk; and a close friend family friend, Tamra Spurlock of Suffolk. A church service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Christ United Methodist Church, Bayview Blvd., Norfolk, by the Rev. Frances Cooper and Dr. Charles H . Smith. A graveside service will be at 2:30 p.m. in Holland , Va. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel.
