Bessie Holland Spivey, 76, died Jan. 3, 2001, in Obici Hospital.
Born in Isle of Wight County, she was a daughter of the late John Addie and Bessie Duke Holland. She was predeceased by her husband, Melvin Vaughan Spivey, and her daughter, Connie S. Cope. Mrs. Spivey was retired from the Sales Service Department of Union Camp Corp. and was a member of Colosse Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Donnie M. Spivey and his wife, Becky, of Chesapeake, and Kevin H. Spivey and his wife, Deidre, of Gainsville, Ga.; a sister, Mary Johnnie Stephens of Walters; a brother, Raby Holland of Colosse; a son-in-law, Rufus C. Cope of Windsor; six grandchildren, Ashley Spivey, Michael Spivey, Tonya Cope, Samantha Spivey, Brent Staley and Barrett Staley; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Colosse Baptist Church with the Rev. Lee Bowers officiating. Burial will be in the Colosse Cemetery. The family will receive friends today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, and suggests that memorials be made to Colosse Baptist Church, 6361 Rhodes Drive, Windsor, VA 23487.
