Emily Vaughan Howell, 89, of 26356 Smiths Ferry Road, died Aug. 29, 1994. 

Mrs. Howell was a lifelong resident of Southampton Conty and was the daughter of the late Hilory Lee and Mary Jane Gardner Vaughan. She was the widow of James Edward Howell Sr. Mrs. Howell was a member of Sycamore Baptist Church and its T.E.L. Sunday School Class. 

Survivors include two daughters, Jean H. Darden and Phyllis H. Mewborn; and one son, J. Edward Howell Jr., all of Franklin; one sister, Mary Frances Marshall of Richmond; two brothers, Cecil Vaughan of Franklin and Ashley Vaughan of Sedley; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. 

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Sycamore Baptist Church with Dr. Reginald Warren officiating. Burial will be in Poplar Spring Cemetery. Wright Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
