Miss Howell, a native of Southampton County, was a retired elementary school teacher. She taught 41 years in Southampton County and two years in Henry County. She retired in 1971 from the Boykins School. She was a member of Courtland Baptist Church, its Sebrell Bible Class, the Elizabeth Edwards Circle, the W.M.U. and the Keenagers Senior Citizens Group. She was a member of the Franklin-Southampton County Retired Teachers Association, the Christian Women's Club and the Nottoway River Women's Club. She was a graduate of Mary Washington College and a member of its alumni association. Survivors include one nephew and several cousins. A funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday in Courtland Baptist Church by Dr. Gary Powell and the Rev. Edmund Ellis. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery .
