Obituary of Nell Daughtrey Howell NELL DAUGHTREY HOWELL Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - June 5, 2002 Nell Daughtrey Howell, 87, died June 4, 2002, at Obici Hospital. Born Dec. 15, 1914, in Nansemond County, Va., she was the daughter of the late Jasper and Mary Susie Carson Daughtrey and the widow of Jarvis Howell. She was predeceased by her sisters, Dorothy Anderson, Elsie Godfrey, Edith Rawls and Mary Sue Richardson. Mrs. Howell was a lifelong member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church and a teacher in its nursery for 63 years. Survivors include her daughter, Geraldine McDaniel and husband Paul of Roanoke; a son, Jarvis Howell Jr. and wife Linda of Suffolk; grandchildren, Christopher Winstead, Kimberley Story and husband Chris, Jarvis Howell III and Jack Howell; sister, Ida Graves of Harrisonburg; brothers, Hunter Daughtrey and Jasper Daughtrey Jr., both of Suffolk. She was "Mama Nell" to many children, especially Janet Brinkley. A funeral will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. in Beaver Dam Baptist Church by the Rev. Dr. Richard Peerey with burial in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends in R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home today from 7 to 9 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Texie Camp Marks Children's Center, 700 Campbell Ave., Franklin, VA 23851.
