Marion Pierce Hughes, 70, died March 21, 1999, in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. 

Born June 17, 1928, in Pulaski County, Va., he was a son of the late James Edward and Dallie Gray Hughes. Marion retired from Heileg-Myers Furniture Company after 35 years of service. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War and a member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church. 

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Frances Roseberry Hughes; two daughters, Catherine H. Morgan and her husband, Hamilton, of Franklin and Rebecca E. Hughes of Kansas City, Mo.; a brother, James R. Hughes of Cleveland, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Jason B. Wise, Kelly W. Robinson, Sarah E. Wise and Stephanie A. Hughes. He was predeceased by a brother, Charlie D. Hughes. 

A funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Wright Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Richard L. Peerey officiating. Burial will be in Southampton Memorial Park . The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home and request that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, 405 S. Parliament Drive, Virginia Beach, Va. 23464, or to the Arthritis Foundation, 900 Commonwealth Place, Suite 101, Virginia Beach, Va. 23464.
