Mr. Jenkins was a native of Southampton County and was the son of the late Jordan and Clara Beale Jenkins. He attended the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg and was a retired employee of the United States Postal Service, Courtland Rural Routes, after twenty-seven years of service. He was a member of the Courtland United Methodist Church, the William and Mary Athletic Foundation, the Courtland Ruritan Club, the American Legion and the Woodmen of the World. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He is survived by his wife, Hazel Bryant Jenkins; a daughter, Dr. Mary Stuart Woodburn, and son in law, Dr. Robert J. Woodburn of Richmond, three grandchildren, Robert Stuart Woodburn, Tammy Lee Minnifield both of Richmond and Robert James Woodburn of Venice, TX; and three great-grandchildren. A graveside funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, January 2, 1994, at the Riverside Cemetery in Courtland by Rev. John Wimer. The remains rest at Purviance Funeral Home, Boykins Chapel. The family will receive friends at the residence at 22174 Main Street, Courtland . Memorial donations may be made to the Courtland Volunteer Rescue Squad or to the Courtland United Methodist Church.
