Johnson, 79, died Sept. 30, 2003 in Southampton Memorial Hospital. Born in Paterson, N.J., he was a son of the late David Edwards and Lillie Medford Johnson and was retired from the Saw Mill Department of Union Camp Corporation. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Margaret Ann Baggett Johnson; seven daughters, Diann Davenport and husband Wib of Yorktown, Pauline Copeland and husband Lenny of Edenton, N.C., Mae Clarke and her friend George Floyd of Emporia, Louise Ogburn and husband Donnie of Chesapeake, Nona King and husband John of South Hill, Jane Burgess and husband Barry of Courtland and Belinda Jones and husband Kenny of Courtland ; a brother, Bob Johnson of Colonial Heights; 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a sister, Essie Johnson. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in Riverside Cemetery, Courtland , with the Rev. Curtis Faison officiating. The family will receive friends today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, and suggests that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, c/o Ruth Petty, 116 Southampton Road, Franklin, VA 23851.
