Elsie Johnson Simms, 72, died Jan. 29, 1998, in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
Mrs. Simms was born in Southampton County and was a daughter of the late Richard Wilber and Berta Rawls Johnson. She was a member of Sycamore Baptist Church.
Mrs. Simms is survived by her husband of 55 years, Linwood J. Simms; two sisters, Clara Belle Whitley and Agnes Oliver Story, both of Franklin; two nieces, Bernice Hunter of Hunterdale and Marie Hornok of Sedley; a nephew, Elmo Drake of Lynchburg; several great-nieces and great-nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Richard W. Johnson.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in Wright Funeral Home by the Rev. Dr. Reginald Warren and the Rev. Wayne C. Harrison. Burial will be in Poplar Spring Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home at 7 p.m. Sunday and suggests that memorial donations may be made to Sycamore Baptist Church, 32018 Sycamore Church Road, Franklin, Va. 23851.
