Dorothy Jones Pope died Sept. 29, 1998.
Born Feb. 14, 1925, in Alberta, Va., she was a daughter of the late Charles and Katie King Jones and the widow of James D. ``Punk'' Pope. A retired bank teller, Mrs. Pope was a member of Capron United Methodist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include her daughter, Katie P. Edwards and her husband, Tye, of Capron; three sons, James D. ``Pete'' Pope and his wife, Kay, Benjamin Gregory Pope and his wife, Kitty Lou, all of Capron, and Charles Ashby ``Buddy'' Pope and his wife, Marie, of Casselberry, Fla.; six grandchildren, Jim and his wife, Robin, Joe and his wife, Suzanne, Jennifer, Jessica, Josh and Bland; and one great-grandchild, Kendal. Besides her husband, Mrs. Pope was predeceased by three brothers and two sisters.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in Capron Cemetery by the Rev. Lowell Stovall. The family will receive friends at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the home of Pete and Kay Pope, 16208 Old Belfield Road, Capron. Memorials may be made to the Capron Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 128, Capron, Va. 23829, Capron United Methodist Church, 23121 Main St., Capron, Va. 23829 or to Courtland Heathcare Center, 23020 Main St., Courtland, Va. 23837. Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, is in charge.
