Elsie Jones Gardner 82, widow of Dr. Henry L. Gardner Jr., died Sept. 28, 2000, at Southampton Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Gardner was a native of Brunswick County, Va., and a daughter of the late Eugenia and Powell Jones. She was a retired registered nurse and a graduate of Norfolk General Hospital School of Nursing. She was a longtime member of High Street United Methodist Church and its Louise Pace Matthews Circle. She was also a member of Southampton Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and a former Pink Lady.
Mrs. Gardner is survived by a daughter, Lannie G. Dail and her husband, Joe, of Franklin; a son, Henry McGuire Gardner of Virginia Beach; a sister, Gene Vick of Courtland; a brother, John Lewis Jones of Pensacola, Fla.; several nieces and nephews; and five special caregivers, Alease Scott, Maggie Lawrence, Jean Carter, Jean Rooks and Tracey Barnes.
A graveside service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at Poplar Spring Cemetery by the Rev. Edward C. Johnson. The family will receive friends at Joe and Lannie Dail's house at 833 Clay St., Franklin. After the funeral, there will be a visitation at the Village at Woods Edge. Wright Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
