A native of Isle of Wight County, his parents were the late Walter Jasper and Bessie Mae Tomlin Joyner. He had retired as a farmer and employee of Gwaltney's in Smithfield. He carried newspapers in the Zuni area for The Virginian-Pilot for 15 years. He was a member of Bethany Presbyterian Church, the Zuni Hunt Club, and was a charter member of Zuni Ruritan Club. He is survived by a son, Robert Goode Joyner of Orbit; a daughter, Charlotte Joyner Luter of Windsor ; four grandchildren, Steve Joyner, Debbie Joyner, Mike Luter and Travis Luter; a great-grandson, Zachary Joyner; two brothers, L. Russell Joyner of Seaford and Sydney Joyner of Tappahannock; a sister, Betty Louise Maynard of Richmond; and several nieces and nephews. He was father of the late Deborah Ann Joyner. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield, by the Rev. John Hartman. Burial will be in Antioch Church Cemetery, Windsor . The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today and at other times at the residence of Charlotte J. Luter, 11121 Old Suffolk Road, Windsor .
