Obituary of Hassell Douglas Lassiter HASSELL DOUGLAS LASSITER Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - June 21, 1998 Hassell Douglas Lassiter, 82, died June 20, 1998, in Southampton Memorial Hospital, Franklin. A well-known building contractor, he had built many homes in Franklin, Southampton County and surrounding areas. Born Oct. 4, 1915, in Bertie County, N.C., he was the son of the late Clyde Taylor and Evie Bazemore Lassiter. Hassell was a avid sportsman, hunter, fisherman and golfer and was active in a variety of community organizations. He was a member of the Boykins Baptist Church, a charter member of Boykins Lions Club, Boykins Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad, and Meherrin Valley Hunt Club. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Inez Sykes Lassiter; two daughters, Kay Lassiter Joyner of Smithfield, N.C., and Linda Sykes Lassiter, of Courtland; a brother, Roy A. Lassiter of Boykins; several nieces and nephews and many close friends. He was predeceased by three brothers, Albert K. Lassiter, Dick Lassiter, and Turner S. Lassiter. A funeral service will be held in Boykins Baptist Church at 11 a.m. Monday by the Rev. Benjamin Thomas. Burial will be in Beechwood Cemetery, Boykins. The family will be at the residence, 32114 Elizabeth St., Boykins. Memorial donations may be made to Boykins Baptist Church or to Boykins Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad.
