EVELYN LeHEW JOHNSTON

FRANKLIN - Evelyn LeHew Johnston, 87, a beloved mother and "Granny" who
was affectionately known as "Gaga" to many, died Oct. 26, 2004, at
Southampton Memorial Hospital. Born in Rice Lake, Wis., a daughter of
the late Montz Cornelius and Helen Anderson LeHew, she was a supervisor
with Wisconsin Bell prior to relocating to Franklin in 1945. Mrs.
Johnston worked briefly for both Lankford Florist and Rose Brothers
Jewelers before joining Union Camp Corportation where she worked for 22
years as a sales correspondent. Gaga, an avid neelework crafter and
accomplished artist, enjoyed her yard work and bird watching. She was
active in the Senior Circle of Southampton Memorial Hospital and was a
past board member and treasurer. For the Franklin/Southampton Community
Concert Association for which the 1987-88 season was dedicated. She was
a member of Bethany Lutheran Church of Rice Lake, had attended Franklin
Baptist Church and truly loved her church family at Grace Memorial
United Methodist Church in Sedley, where she was involved in many
special projects.

Survivors include her two daughters, Sandra J. Kirkland of Sedley and
Sherry J. Bradshaw of Alabama; four grandchildren, Rob Bradshaw of
Sedley, Kristi Bradshaw Atkins of Phenix City, Ala., Ryan Lawrence
Kirkland and Kirby Claire Kirkland, both of Sedley; a great-grandson,
David Allen Atkins; a nephew, who she loved like a son, Greg Moore and
wife Kathy; and a host of nieces, nephews, other loved ones and dear
friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Clair S. Johnston; a
sister, Gladys L. Moore; and a son-in-law, Thurloe Kirkland.

A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Grace Memorial United
Methodist Church, P.O. Box 73, Sedley, VA 23878, with the Rev. Elizabeth
Von Trapp Walker officiating. Burial will follow in Poplar Spring
Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at
Wright Funeral Home and suggest memorials be made to the church.

This colorful, lively and energetic lady, will truly be missed.

FRANKLIN - Evelyn LeHew Johnston, 87, a beloved mother and "Granny" who
