 Clifton Lee Overby, 90, a lifelong resident of Southampton County, died Wednesday, Oct. 22, 1997, in an Emporia nursing home. 
His parents were the late Will and Romai Beale Overby. He was a member of Drewryville United Methodist Church and was a retired farmer. 
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Nellie Bailey Overby; two daughters, Barbara Sublett, and her husband, Rayford, and Shirley Leigh Overby, all of Drewryville; a granddaugher, Bobbi Jo Sublett of Roanoke Rapids, N.C.; a brother, Leon Overby of Suffolk; three sisters, Edna Overby of Branchville, Mary Barnes of Newport News and Hazel Overby of Smithfield. 
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Purviance Funeral Chapel, Boykins, by the Rev. Lowell P. Stovall. Burial will be in Beechwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today and at other times at the residence, 10147 Fortsville Road, Drewryville. Memorial donations may be made to Drewryville United Methodist Church or to the Capron Volunteer Rescue Squad.
